What is Matcha Three Mint Green Tea?
Clearspring Organic Matcha Three Mint brings together a harmonious yet refreshing blend of Japanese green tea, rich and exquisite premium Matcha with three varieties of mint: invigorating peppermint, sweet spearmint and cool field mint. Whilst our Organic Matcha Three Mint can be enjoyed at any time of the day, its refreshing and uplifting taste is the perfect pick-me-up beverage first thing in the morning or early afternoon, when you need a boost!
What is Matcha?
Matcha is finely ground green tea leaf powder and is the most prized amongst Japanese teas. It has been drunk as part of the tea ceremony for 900 years as well as by Buddhist monks during long days of meditation.
This very concentrated form of green tea is drunk as a fine powder diffused in liquid so you actually ingest the whole leaf, consuming every last bit of goodness.
How is it made?
Clearspring Organic Matcha Three Mint is specially created by our Japanese expert tea producers. Our organic sencha is made from green tea leaves that are cultivated in direct sunlight and are harvested in the first or second flush of the tea harvest, considered the best quality leaves for a finer-tasting sencha tea. The Sencha is then combined with three varieties of mint: peppermint, spearmint, and field mint. Each brings its own refreshing flavour, which enhances the overall taste experience of this tea. The final flourish is the addition of finely milled, shade-grown organic matcha which comes from Uji, a region high in the hills around Kyoto, renowned for producing the best Japanese teas. The combination of ingredients delivers a crisp and refreshing flavour, which is perfect whenever you need a boost throughout the day.

What makes Clearspring teas so special?
Our producer, the Nagata family, abandoned modern agriculture dependant on chemicals in 1974, and has been using sustainable organic practices for decades. The expertise of our Organic tea farmers to grow and select the finest leaves and their commitment to the highest Organic standards The sloping land on which the tea plants are grown helps the water to drain and provides better ventilation, which allows for better resistance against disease The Nagata tea gardens are isolated from other tea farms which radically lowers the risks of cross contamination from agrochemicals like pesticides. The farming methods used encourage biodiversity and natural ‘allies’ such as spiders, lizards, mantis and ladybugs help to keep harmful insects away so that the plants are naturally protected.

Third Generation Tea Family from Kyoto, Japan
In the hills around Kyoto, the third generation of the Nagata family use special organic methods, known as Nature Farming, to produce a range of exquisite green teas for Clearspring.
The ancient farming approach used by the Nagatas builds up soil vitality by maintaining a semi-wild environment, where the plants are not overly protected and gain nourishment from repeated applications of compost made from tea clippings and dried leaves, which together with regular mulching helps control weed growth and maintain soil moisture.
Whilst most tea farmers spray their plants with pesticides and herbicides 15-20 times a year, the Nagatas' tea bushes have a vigour that enables them to thrive without chemical inputs.
The Nagatas' yields may be lower than average but their plants have far less mould and blight. They remain productive for up to 40 years, twice as long as the typical tea bush treated with chemicals.
As well as growing tea, the Nagatas undertake the skilful blanching, drying and roasting processes to bring out the unique flavours of each individual blend.
